Shadows and Light

Spend three lovely, relaxing days learning a wide variety of different mixed media and jewelry wiring techniques in a project that includes both a rosary-style “gated” necklace and an evocative shadowbox that houses favorite tiny items. This will be a wonderful time of incorporating assorted approaches to artwork with dimensional items or relatively small treasures gathered throughout the years; using mica, wire, nails, hand drills, paint and paper and fabric, vintage findings and trimmings, we will each create a narrative vignette that will take our work “off the page”, to the next dimension.

In the next few months, be gathering treasures you’ve collected throughout the years to incorporate into a beautiful vignette that will beckon you to step within, like Alice through the looking glass, or Lucy, through the wardrobe. For trimmings, think of landscape vistas, tree branches, pearly things, small figurines, vintage fabric millinery flowers, beads, ribbon, flat rhinestones, lace. Remember that heavier items are more difficult to keep in place.
