The De Meng Arrives

Jul. 30th 2008

What more can I say ???? A LOT!!!!!
Michael arrived last Friday…. I can hardly believe that .. And what a week it was. We started off by offering a 2-day class creating Weird Wonderful Windows. Although it was difficult to photograph these boxes, here are some examples of work produced in this workshop….

Marcella’s light box

One of 3 shadow boxes created by Kevin

One of 2 boxes Nancy created… She stayed for Michael’s Found Object Alchemy workshop and created the other box during that time. This is Nancy’s first visit to Valley Ridge and she says it won’t be her last.

Created by Gary, our current featured artist.
And yep, Michael played with the lighting when critiquing …. on-off on-off… a little spark here and there.

Take a look at all the work created in Michael’s workshop.

Paper Dolls

Jul. 15th 2008
I am a member of the Bone Folders’ Guild (a group of book artists who support one another)….

We meet once a month in Madison. One member volunteers to faciliate the evening. This month, Kristin Yates lead us in creating paper dolls. Now, I must admit, I was less than excited about the activity and actually thought that I might skip the meeting… But I went. I later discovered that I was not the only member less than enthusiastic about the activity as. However, what silly little bonefolder memebers we are. Once we started, the uh’s and ah’s and giggling began and before you know it, we had all created these fantastic paper dolls.

Here is the paper doll I created…

and here are some of the paper dolls others created (they gave me permission to post)…

Bone Folder member Dawn’s paper doll…

Here is Bone Folder Member, Cary Weiler’s paper doll…

And here is Bone Folder member, Laura’s paper doll…

This was so much fun, that I mentioned that I would try to make a paper doll every day…. well that was a few days ago…. Okay, hmmmmmm… I am going to challenge myself to make a paper doll at least once a week.

Skies at Valley Ridge

Jul. 15th 2008
Since Bill and I moved here, it is the sky that speaks to me…

I find myself asking “Is the sky this beautiful in France or in Norway or in India?”  It probably is, but why do I notice the sky more often here at Valley Ridge.  Is it the Ridge or the deep valleys that demand the sky to participate in the magnificence of their surroundings? Or is it the  bellowing wind that makes room for the gentleness of clouds to linger if only for a moment?

A storm is brewing, they say…
